What is paintless dent repair?

Most people have never heard of it, and then they see a door ding disappear in an hour with no paint, no filler and no body shop. Here's what PDR is and when it's the right call.

The short definition

Paintless dent repair — PDR — is the craft of pushing a dent back out of a panel instead of covering it up. No sanding, no body filler, no repainting. The factory finish your car left the assembly line with stays exactly where it is.

It's the method of choice for door dings, hail dents, shopping-cart hits and creases, and it's usually a fraction of what a traditional repair costs.

How the repair actually works

A technician gets access behind the panel — often through a window opening, a light housing or a trim panel — then uses long steel rods to push the metal from the back while watching a reflected light board on the surface. That reflection shows the exact shape of the low spot.

The dent comes out in dozens of small, deliberate movements rather than one push. Where the metal sits high, it gets tapped back down. Done right, the panel reads flat in every reflection and there is nothing left to paint.

The damage it handles best

  • Door dings and parking-lot dents
  • Hail damage, from a handful of dents to a whole roof and hood
  • Creases along body lines
  • Larger dents on hoods, doors, quarter panels and tailgates where paint is intact

Repairs start at $160, and most jobs are finished in hours — in your driveway or your work parking lot, since we bring everything with us.

When PDR isn't the answer

The one requirement is intact paint. If the finish is cracked, chipped or scraped to primer, or the metal is torn or stretched from a hard hit, the panel needs paint work and we'll tell you that up front rather than take the job.

Why choose PDR over a body shop?

A body shop fixes a dent by sanding it, filling it and spraying new paint over it. That works, but it also means your car carries refinished paint for the rest of its life — something any buyer, dealer or appraiser can spot.

  • Original paint stays original. Nothing to disclose at trade-in.
  • Hours, not days. No shop queue, no rental car.
  • Costs less. Often low enough to stay under an insurance deductible.
  • We come to you. We're fully mobile across West Central Florida.
